2.2 Message Content

OrngeChat uses end-to-end encryption (E2EE) for direct messages. For guild (server) messages, content is encrypted at rest using AES-256. This means:

  • Direct messages are encrypted on your device before transmission using E2EE
  • Only you and the recipient can decrypt and read your direct messages
  • Guild messages are encrypted at rest on the server
  • E2EE encryption keys for direct messages are generated and stored on your devices

2.3 Technical Data

We may collect limited technical information necessary for service operation:

  • IP addresses (for security and abuse prevention)
  • Device type and browser information (for compatibility)
  • Connection timestamps (for service reliability)

2.4 User-Generated Content

Content you share on OrngeChat (messages, files, images) is stored to enable the service. For encrypted content, we store only the encrypted data which we cannot decrypt.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your information solely to:

  • Provide and maintain the OrngeChat service
  • Authenticate your identity and secure your account
  • Send service-related communications (password resets, security alerts)
  • Detect and prevent abuse, spam, or security threats

4. Self-Hosted Instances

If you use a self-hosted instance of OrngeChat:

  • The instance operator (not OrngeChat) is responsible for data handling
  • This privacy policy applies only to our hosted service at app.orngechat.site
  • Self-hosted operators should provide their own privacy policies
  • We have no access to data on self-hosted instances

5. User-Generated Content Disclaimer

OrngeChat is a communication platform. Users are responsible for the content they create and share. We do not:

  • Pre-screen or approve user content before posting
  • Monitor private conversations (we technically cannot due to E2EE)
  • Endorse or take responsibility for user-generated content
  • Control content on third-party servers or self-hosted instances

If you encounter content that violates our Terms of Service on our hosted platform, please report it to us. We will investigate and take appropriate action where possible.

6. Data Retention

We retain your data as follows:

  • Account data: Retained while your account is active
  • Messages: Retained according to server settings (configurable by server owners)
  • Deleted content: Removed from active systems, though backups may persist temporarily
  • Account deletion: Upon request, we will delete your account and associated data

  • End-to-end encryption for message content
